It seems very out of place to have an owl with a crayfish... It's an exceptional shot! And props to the 5D3 here, that 6400 iso looks as clean as what I'd expect out of 400!

Thank you. I was happy to have the 5D MkIII but ideally the bare 300mm, or maybe my little-used 100-400mm would have let me get the whole owl, and then maybe crop for a close-up! I had to back up for this shot. Then I (frantically) removed the 2X, but by that time it was gone--still a surprising thrill to witness and get this nearly full-frame close-up.

beautiful shots, love them all. The barred owl must have been quite an experience.

Pretty amazing for such a close shot of the Barred and what a surprise of this catch! How cool is that!
#2 my fav!
#3 lovely
#4 just a bit 'hard' looking to me Brian.......but a cool shot!

Karl

Thank you, Karl. I'd call the Green Heron shot "grim," and it's definitely harder than the others.

Brian, the first shot is extraordinary. The behavior of the owl catching crawdads is quite unusual, but it happens as your capture proves. Great find, awesome shot.
