Great composition! I guess if anything, I would say straighten #1 to building lines are vertical.

I like the set John, but where is the snow?

Hopefully you have more to share! Maybe even in BW?

Regards,

Bob

Re-uploaded the first one for straightening the lines, good catch.

Surprisingly, there was no snow!! A few flurries as I was walking around, but only some gross old piles that haven't melted yet.

Edit - If you're interested, my Chicago album is here. I'll be uploading a few more in the next couple days.

here's two in B+W...

#1 B+W

#3 B+W

I like #2, nice L-R, dark-light play going on there.

Thanks Oregon Gal! Glad you liked them!
Thanks Bob - if you've got other suggestions for BW processing, I'm all ears. Feel free to get the original from the album link and play around.

3 and 4 work well for me. One thing that differentiates these two images from the first two, is, to my way of thinking, less conflict between the foreground and background elements by choosing your focus better.
Let me explain.
In the first, there is nice detailed view of the iron structure of the bridge on the right. But the eye is pulled down the bridge to the pedestrian. And it appears that the DOF falls off, less sharp in the distance. Just where the eye wants to go.
The effect/conflict is greater in your second image. You have a play of repetitive elements with shallow DOF. Fine and appealing. But the position you chose also allows the eye to be pulled deep into the scene to the car and then the pedestrians beyond. Conflict between near and far subjects, sharp and softer.
3 and 4 dont seem to have that tension. The foreground elements are clearly blurred but provide context and framing, POV. The subject is clearly in the distance, nicely focused.

It's always nice to see other people's compositions of places/things I've also photographed. It's an excellent tool for me to realize where I can improve.
I think you got some unique/unusual shots of the Chicago sign, which a million of us have photographed, but you did it in an interesting way.

Thanks Rusty!
Scott, thanks for the analysis. I wondered about that DOF fall off, and it does for sure. Both were shot at f1.4. Thanks for pointing out the conflict.

Here's a slightly different version... same aperture, but the pedestrian is closer, right at the edge where the DOF starts to drop significantly... any thoughts on it?

Prefer the last version on several levels, i.e. format, processing, comp @ scale/mass diff of both pedestrian and ironwork.
