Sorry if this has been done before, it seems useful ...

A D400 is of course a DX sensor camera with ~8FPS, D300 build, and other so-called professional attributes. Maybe 16-24 MP.

If you are from Canon, definitely - I'll buy two.

If you represent Nikon, hell no!

I just want a D7100 with bigger buffer and 8 FPS, that will be good enough for me.

I have been a happy Nikon DX shooter since the release of the D70. But I like my D600 so much, I am unlikely to buy another DX camera.

I'm still reasonably satisfied with my D300, but I would consider one when they come down to a reasonable price on the used market. Although this is probably not very likely, I hope like the D400 supports compact flash like the D4/D4s - I have too much money tied up in compact flash cards and it would be nice to be able to keep using them.

Possibly, really depends on the other specs, but I would consider an 16-18MP camera with 8fps (with grip).
I'm also looking for the video features to see how they stack up.

I'd be interested in that D700 16MP FX upgrade too.

Before I got a D5300, I definitely would have said no because of DX ISO limitations.
Now, I get good images at ISO 12,800.
With the better controls and handling of the D300 body and continuous 1080 P60 Video,
I will be on the pre-order list the day of the official announcement.

Other things I would like to see on the "FlagShip" DX Camera:

16-24 MP Sensor with double the readout speed
Bigger, Faster Buffer,
Faster, more accurate AutoFocus,
Dual UH-2 card slots for 280+ MBs SDXC,
HDMI 2,
USB 3,
H.265,
Million + dot 3.5" OLED touchscreen (preferred swivel)

Nice list!

Not that I need it, but WiFi would be good ... it would indicate Nikon is starting to see the need for connectivity.

I heard there was a chapter of the Optimist Club on FM but I didn't know the members had decided to make the D400 their project this year...

Hope springs eternal, or so I've been told... Have fun guys.

At this point, I think it is better to use the add on units.
Because they do not drain the camera battery.

It would be very cool if they were added to an optional two battery grip though.

Now that would be a cool idea ... build the WiFi into the optional grip!

Old name for the vaporware D300 replacement = D400
New name for the vaporware D300 replacement = D9300

Same camera, same vapor.
