A less expensive alternative would be the Contax C/Y 100/2.8. It's fantastic across the frame from f/5.6 on at any distance. It's big, though, since it accommodates focus down to 1:1.

I am sure that you can't see any differences between the Zeiss 100/2 and 135/2 when used for (stopped down) landscape pictures. The difference in resolution is simply too low for that. Both are fantastic for this purpose.

Two very nice images. Thanks for sharing.

I have the ZF100/2 and CV90/3.5. For stopped down landscape usage they both resolve excellently across the frame. I generally prefer the colors and global contrast from the Zeiss, but would have a hard time guessing which landscape type photos came from which lens at f/5.6-8.0 in a non-controlled setting. Since neither lens has focus shift, I usually focus wide-open and then stop down. In this, the Zeiss has the advantage as it is much clearer when you hit focus on a distant subject. The Voigt also focuses relatively close with only a short part of the throw dedicated to longer distances. I've missed infinity focus fractionally more often with the Voigt than the Zeiss.

On the Sony A7, the CV is light enough even with the long E to F mount adapter that you can just use a plate/bracket on the camera body. With the Zeiss, however, I mount the rig to my tripod with the foot on the Metabones adapter for better balance and to avoid flex at the mount.

Thanks for all of the very nice examples. For those using the Zeiss 100, is the focus throw aimed at macro ever a problem or bothersome in focusing more distant subjects? Thanks.

I find I can focus the lens with live view, but it is tedious. You have to employ a very light touch. The results, however, are excellent.

It's more precise than my eyes can see, so no problem for me.

Its an absolute joy to use for landscape photography, renders fine detail and delicate transitions like very few lenses can. Here's a few examples on a D700.

I find the lens more useable on my A7 than my Nikon D600 in general. There is no question that I can nail focus every time on the A7 if the subject is still. I use magnification for critical focus when possible, otherwise I have my jpeg setting with high sharpness to cause aliasing artifact while in full view, on recommendation from other forum members. Regarding focus peaking, the lens has such good contrast that everything peaks when close to correct focus and the feature becomes pretty much useless.
