Here is the link to the latest version of Canon software that supports the 1Ds MkII.

The caps have to leak down before the memory would be wiped clean. But I have no idea if it will even work but something has to keep it alive?

It's called non-volatile memory and the Personal Functions are stored there. The settings can only be remove/changed via software.

I still use my 1Ds! It's always fun bringing it out to group photowalks and getting absolutely crazy looks from people. I just love the RAW files from the 1Ds, even if it's only 11MP. And to be honest, if you get a good np-e3 like a Lenmar, I have been able to go all evening and night off one battery, and then some more the next day.

Here is a nature shot I did the other day:

Nighttime shot from a tripod:

This was a night shot experiment where I bumped the ISO to 640, just to see

No, it's not old Peter. I like the huge pixel size and it is the biggest one from canon ff farm

Lol... I'm starting to miss two-button Drive / ISO settings from seeing this thread. Ah, at least Bracketing is still set this way - need to use it more.

50-1250 when extended..

Its pretty good at ISO 50. It doesnt have much of AA (low-pass) filter, so it makes pretty sharp pics. Colors are bit of hit-n-miss, usually depends on how good was WB nailed. In some aspects it was very advanced camera, some functions were even dropped in future models.

Otherwise, its still FF, still very good on base (sub-base) ISO. If something doesnt want to "eat" .TIF (which are RAWs, not TIFFs), just rename it to .CR2. Its same for most converters..

For FW, there are add-on cards, if one has PC. There is plenty of stuff that works or worked only with FW, thats why they exist..

Can you point to a product that works with Win 7 x64, for both FW and the EOS driver?

Many people have weighed-in on this issue, and no solution has yet been found for a contemporary PC. For example, earlier in this current thread,

...and previously,

Nope. You need a Win 2000 (maybe even '98?), up to XP machine, with FW. I decided not to bother with the Personal Functions -- very few were of enough interest.

Yeah, what you gonna do? If I have some time in Ottawa, I'll try to hook up with Larry, but I'm not holding my breath.

Jim, I'm still working off an old Dell laptop that was originally running XP/SP3 and recently upgraded memory and the O/S to Win7Pro. Knowing a 1D2N was soon to be in-house, I simply kept the hard disk with XP and just switch drives when needed. It's a PITA but it does work

Hey Jerry,

The only thing I have that old (besides Alt lenses) is the 1DS. Oh, except for the wife and kids. They all fit in the "pre-386SX" era. Well, at least three out of the four of them do.

I've an old mini-tower from past development days and it's running Win2K, I'm thinking it may have a firewire card in it, if you need it I'm guessing we can work something out

Also, you can get nice refurb machines from Amazon, I checked a few weeks ago when my laptop was going a bit wacky, with 4gb and XP/SP3 their Dell Latitude e6500s were going for $250-350, might be an alternative.

Cool idea. Now I have to start a used computer price database...

I remember loving this camera. Paid more than 8K for it.

...and that was real dollars.

This quotation from your review explains exactly why I decided to go Canon, when I left Pentax 35mm and Fuji MF rangefinders behind.

"You've got to hold the viewfinder up to your eyes to realize that the world comes in a full frame size and now Canon has finally delivered the tool you need to capture it."

I started with a 20D in 2004, but I knew that I was headed towards a full frame 1D-series camera.
