I just picked up a 1Ds on Kijiji. What was I thinking?
I'll tell you what I was thinking...
"1Ds... Mmmm... I've always wanted to try one... "
"It's why I went to Canon when I migrated from you know what, whatever that is... "
I paid $260 CA (about $5 US). It has 85k actuations and it's in [E+] condition, except for a small gash that's about 12mm x 3mm, that's worn through the paint and grippy cover stuff, on the front face of the lower grip, at battery-opening end. It will affect resale value, but not too much.
Here's some things that I've noticed, since getting it about six hours ago.
It says "DIGITAL" at the bottom of the front face, where my previously-oldest 1D-series camera says "Mk IV". Cute.
The RAW file extension is ".TIF". Charming.
ISO 100 to 1250, expands to, 50 to 1250. OMG.
It has an extra "safety" button on the battery release. I actually forgot that my 1DII cameras had that, too.
It feels good in the hand - just like I new it would.
I had to search the manual for "beep" to get to the point that I remember that it's on the stupid On/Off switch. What were they thinking? What was I thinking?
Firewire - damn! There are four or five Personal Functions that I want to change.
Anybody know of a Firewire to USB 2 or 3 adapter that would actually work? I remember jumping through hoops to get a working driver for my 'previous-generation' desktop, which actually had a pair of Firewire ports.
When I saw the NC-E2 charger, a shiver ran down my spine. OTOH, it works on both 'channels', which is twice as good as the two 'single channel' NC-E2 chargers I had with my two 1DII bodies.
BTW, is there an old 1Ds images thread lurking around, somewhere in the 'Time Machine"?
Here's a few snaps of my newest EF lens on my oldest EOS DSLR.
