p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Fuji X100S Raw v Jpeg

Hi ,

Please bear with me.

I'm still learning.

May I pick your brains again ..... please. I today took a photograph. 1 photo RAW , 1 photo JPEG , of the same subject. I imported both into LR 5.3.

I applied the same amount of contrast , sharpening ( i.e contrast 18 , sharpening 35 ) , etc etc etc to both images. The JPEG version was still "sharper" i.e. more detail on roof tiles and better definition on edges of the roof etc than the RAW version - I would have thought it would be the other way round. Why is this please ?

Thank you much

(1) Unless you turned sharpening off in camera, the jpeg was a converted raw file with sharpening applied. Then you applied more in LR. So the jpeg had sharpening applied 2X.

(2) LR sucks for X-trans. X-trans raw files look mushy and have a lot of artifacts in LR.

Both of these reasons would lead to observable differences.
