I've heard from a dependable inside source that the 800L MkII is about to be announced.
The major changes will be 0.8 kg (almost 2 lb) reduction in lens weight, significant reduction in MFD (and corresponding boost of the magnification), as well as a new dedicated 1.4xTC (800) supplied with the lens.
The new lens set will also be sold with a limited edition trunk made of bird's eye maple wood with solid brass hardware/accents and leather handles.
The projected lens set price is $19,995 US.

Please keep an eye on this thread for new info which I will post as soon is it becomes available.

Nope, if the TC isn't built in, I'm not interested no matter what the CPS Canada price is. That said, I've already preordered that 1D-W ( two of them).

Also did you read about the 200-600 f/4 at the bottom of the press release....if not you need to check that out!! Combined with the 1DW you are okay if you fall out of your kayak!!

I couldn't resist and placed myself on the wait list. I figure that the lens would be neutrally buoyant what with the lower weight and wood trim and thus suitable for PIUF (Puffins In Underwater Flight) shots.

The deal maker was the 3% rebate offer if I used a new PetKal account to finance it.

Anxiously awaiting delivery.

Except for the bit about a limited edition trunk (lol), I find all of the rest pretty plausible.. a built-in or dedicated 1.4x TC would make that one unbelievable lens, though way out of my price range.

It'd be a great upgrade of an already great lens..

It was the 'limited edition trunk made of bird's eye maple wood with solid brass hardware/accents and leather handles' that caught my eye. Although I'd have thought a velvet lined inner padding might have been included as well, just so your better half could comfortably bury your sorry arse after finding out you actually spent 20K on a matched set of glasses

I would have waited a day to announce this Peter. You blew it with the price. 800 f/5.6L will be no dearer than 600 f/4L. It's easier to design, is virtually the same size and has smaller front element and the current model is already at Canon's cloud cuckoo pricing levels.

Ummm....have you heard of the Nikon 800 f/5.6 with 1.25TC.....it is the pricing model Canon can't wait to adopt for the 800II. I think Peter's price was the most believable thing in his April Fools Day joke.
