p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Portra 160 iT8 targets to profile Epson V750 Pro?

I am wanting to profile my new to me scanner, Epson V750 Pro
I bought it used, so don't have Silverfast, nor any iT8 targets.
Though, I did get the Monaco software, though, that is hugely out of date, and no targets.
I did purchase Vuescan.

My dilemma:
I don't see any targets for current films.
In particular 120mm Portra 160.

The use of the old targets would be better than none?
Though, I thought they were specific to the profile you wish to save and use?, icc, icm file.

There are no scanner profiling targets for color negative film. Too much variability in c-41 processing. Too much variability in the film itself and how to expose it correctly.

Oh, hah, I have read about this in other forums.
Thanks for the reply!
Hard to keep up with everything, especially new things.
What about scanning photos, do I need to have a target for these items?
I guess I'm not understanding it too well, yet...

A lot depends on the software you're using. For instance: Even though there's no color neg profile for my scanner, I can actually load the custom Velvia profile I made for it and leave it selected when I make a neg scan. The scanner software inverts the image and when you set white and black points, the image is remarkably close to where it needs to be. Fine tuning the endpoint a few ticks in one direction or the other is all that is usually needed to make a great scan. Exactly how your software goes about the process of inverting the neg scan and removing the orange mask has a lot to do with how your scan appears coming off the scanner. Leaving that "wrong" profile in place provides a source profile for a subsequent conversion to RGB working space.

For scanning prints, it's best to have an reflective input profile made from a good quality IT8 or Hutchcolor target. Your scanning software should have a generic one for you scanner built in already.

Suggest you swallow the fee for Silverfast.

http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/epson_perfection_v750.html

the pro version is 79.95. What a bargain. The software I use was six thousand dollars back in the day.

Yes, I purchased Vuescan Pro.
I am thinking about ColorPerfect also.
Though, I cannot see paying ~$600, or so for Silverfast and all of the modules.
That seems ridiculous, unless, of course, this was in your line of business.
I am just a mere amateur/hobbyist...

Fair enough. I'd lost track of the cost.
