Quick update- I've now used the collar from the 400 on the 70-200. On the 400, the lens does not rotate when you lock down the knob (which is how it should be, IMO), but on the 70-200 the lens rotates in the collar even when the knob is all the way tight. This is not what I wanted, so on a photo trip over the past week using it, I went all MacGyver on it and put a folded over strip of a ziploc bag around the lens before attaching the collar. Worked beautifully; gave just enough thickness to let the collar lock down tight so the lens doesn't rotate, unless I loosen the knob and do it myself, of course! Hope this helps....Show more →

Are you saying the Canon Tripod Ring A(W) that came with your 400mm f/5.6 does not fit well on your 70-200mm f/4 ?
It doesn't work.... I've tried it. Some generic 3rd party rings work on both lenses because of the way their "squeeze" is designed.
Just to be clear, we're talking about the 70-200 F4L IS --- I have no idea if the 400 5.6 ring works with the non-is version of the 70-200 F4L.
