p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Fuji S5 Pro and Nikon Manual Lenses

This thread is to show off what a Fuji s5 pro can do with older Nikkor manual focus lenses (and some other manual focus lenses such as Rokinon which are built for F mount). Please no lenses that require adapters (except occasionally) and other super ccd fuji variants are welcome here occasionally (like a S3 or a EEX)

So lets get to posting great pics. Be sure to mention the camera / lens combination in use. lens porn and camera porn encouraged!

S5 Pro w/ 50mm f/1.2. Terribly hard to focus so I gave up using manual glass with my S5.

Those are so beautiful! Yes the 50 1.2 is a beast to nail focus on ANYTHING modern. I shoot it on my ground glass nikon f3, but get some goodies on the s5. I will post those.

the smaller viewfinder of the s5 makes it tougher to focus manual than a d700 or d800. But it's not that different from older film nikons. You can get a manual focusing screen put in which may limit you from telephotos.

I love the kid - so cute!!!

p.s I usually shoot the 50 1.2 at f2 or f 2.8 where it's very sharp and still great bokeh (esp good bokeh at f2)

I have a Fuji IS-Pro and do';t know how you guys MF with it. Bravo!

The VF is too damned small and dark for my eyes.

what do u use now?

I find the viewfinder is adequate but not brilliant. my f3hp outclasses it

but then again, i started out with manual focus lenses and now, I mostly prefer them. I'll grab my 50 1.8 af-d (which I guess I have to lose the aperture ring to get the better 50 1.4 af-s)

why is it the further nikon goes into mr. roboto land the less I like the lenses. The 50 1.2 is a brilliant lens if only because it is short and chunky with dreamy smooth focus. But I love my 50 2.0 as well becuase BECAUSE the 50 1.2 is so expensive and precious I'm always freaked about it and would never carry it around a city dragging from my shoulder strap! But the f 2.0 no probs. The 2.0 is also wacky sharp and wacky uber cheap. But shhhhh its a secret don't drive up KEH prices!

I think that might be my next jump if Nikon doesn't come out with a DF2 that blows me away. Mainly for the viewfinder. so far I find the output of the S5 just increadible BUT... dinky viewfinder. I'm so used to crappy viewfinders I have no issue with the manual focus since we've had to do that our whole lives jesus its way up from a Zeiss Ikon or a Retina III !!!

I wonder if you dont lose brightness form the IR filter on the lens that you have to use with the IS model. Those tend to be in amazingly good condition when u find them!

I gave up with the S5 Pro. Using my 85mm f/2.0 AIS lens I could get exactly ZERO shots in focus. Zero. None. Zip.

Just terrible............

Wow! Mine isn't like that at all. Strange. sometimes it's the bloody lens or camera out of whack.I get MANY more keepers in focus (and I mean pinpoint exact perfect) with the s5 than my d7000. I just have to remember my shaky hands from my bad thyroid means I rarely get a 1/60th any more. In my 20s I could hand hold a 1/10 or even 1/2 second shot and it would be perfect. Maybe sometime I can borrow the 85/2 for a week and see if the same happens... thats a lens I def want in my gruppo as my rokinon 85 1.4 chipped for nikon the bloody bastards disabled aperture ring movement. bastardi! If I get one more bloody FEE FEE FEE FEE I'm gonna hurl it into the freakin wall!

I dont know what the problem is. I use my 85mm without a problem on my Nikon FM2, but on my S5 Pro, it is utterly useless. A real shame as it is a gorgeous lens.

Same here. Used the 45/2.8 AIP, 28/2 AIS, usually easy lenses to focus on a D700 and FM2 but no joy here. Just stuck with my 24-70 and 85/1.4D. Just my opinion...DX cameras aren't naturals for MF lenses.

Ahh its the Nikkor 35mm Ai-S f 2.8 the dreaded worst lens ever made by Nikon. In the worst nikon lenses it was mentioned three times as not being sharp at all. I wonder how sharp it is I'll take a test picture.

Hmmm how does the 35 2.8 look on my f3hp? How about among my other lenses the 24 2.8, the 35 2.8, the 50 2.0, the 50 1.2, the 55 2.8

boy those crappy out of focus shots... cause I was using AUTOFOCUS lenses. Blech. Let's get back to the 35mm. I wondered what this cast away lens was capable of. Being unblooming in texas I headed to the one place where there might be somethin to shoot - the barnes and noble. First a head! err back of one. Gee that sure seems sharp for a crappy lens!

wow I like this lens. Great bokeh! Ok but can it capture fuzzy animals. surely if the 35mm 2.8 ais was a beast it would suck at fuzzy animals. Godzilla bonking a chicken and some scarie zombie
