Does it slow the performance of a D800 if you set your CF card to RAW and your SD card to jpg.?

I don't believe so, but it's definitely better than the other way around, assuming you have good examples of each card in each slot. The CF writes faster, even through my cheap USB 2.0 portable card reader.

It does slow down the performance. It's doing 2 card writes, that adds up. I tried it already, and it will end up filling your buffer sooner and cause you not to be able to shoot. Now, if you are just shooting 1 shot every 10 seconds, it won't matter. But if you are shooting several shots in a row, say at the beach as waves crash, or at a wedding and the bride and groom are walking down the aisle, be careful, you can come to a standstill.

Why do you want to shoot Raw and jpg?

Jim
