St Petersberg, Russia, USSR.
Before "The Wall" fell.
I got permission from mother before I took the one shot; smiled my thanks, and walked away.

The original is in color, and I liked the color of the bench.
As to why I used this composition and perspective- I don't know.
My travel shots of people are very quick and not overly thought out. More instinctive, I guess.
I see a possibility, walk over to a perspective I like, ask (or not) for permission (I always do with children), zoom to the composition I want, focus and shoot (I preset exposure with my old manual film cameras).
From the time I got the mother's permission to the time I finished was less than 10 seconds.
Then I said thanks (in the USSR it was a smile only) and walked away.
Not everyone's way of doing it, but it works for me- and I don't interfere with peoples' lives except for the briefest of moments. They are usually smiling at the experience- especially when I was in Cambodia and Burma. Something to tell family and friends when they get home.
To me that's a win win.
