I've posted this on Canon gear forum, but
since the trnasmitter is used by a lots of sports shooter,
I'm posting this here.

So I'm a sports photographer
I need to work with the WFT-E6A transmitter
I will use it to transmit files (raw or files)
to my computer while I'll be on the field, ice, tennis court or else.

I've trying to set-up this since few months
I guess I need help here from sports shooters who use it.

So what is the best way to transmit images?
FTP?
EOS Ultility?
WFT?
or else?

and do you have a simple pdf of instructions? for one of the methods of transferring?

Again, all I need is transfering imager to my computer while shooting the event

thank you

J.

Have you tried just plugging the 1Dx into a laptop directly? Or is that not possible. I did that with my laptop using a free FTP Server and had Photo Mechanic ingesting as the files were uploaded..

At major sports/news events it is usually better to have a wired connection as the wifi systems at the venue can get overwhelmed or blocked by interference. At the smaller events using the EOS utility works fairly well (I have the WFT -e2 for my mk4 though I haven't bought the E6 for my X yet)

I shot almost all of the World Figure Skating Championships last year tethered (wired) to my laptop and it worked fairly well. You just have to be careful with it dropping the connection during breaks in shooting especially if the camera, laptop or router goes to sleep. I had a few problems re-connecting it.

Also, if you use Photo Mechanic you can have it watch the folder the EOS Utility is writing to and have it live ingest the images and put a batch caption on them. Very handy if you are shooting on tight deadlines for editorial clients.

Wired or hard transfer (i.e. runners taking cards to editor). For MLS and football, I have had my computer with me on the field so I could download and transmit right from the sidelines. For college hockey I have had my cameras hard wired to my computer.

I thought about the wireless Canon set up for youth sports, having a monitor in the entry way of the gym and then transfer select images for a running slide show, but the reliability of wireless when you absolutely need it would make this too much of a hassle for pro or college sports in my opinion.

Ok thanks guys

I wasn't very clear. My mistake.

For hockey, tennis or else; everything is ok.

Its mostly for soccer.
I need to work wireless cause I can't get the laptop to the field as the wifi does'nt work there.

I finally got the connection with the EOS Utility
My 1D X is paired with my laptop.

I still have questions;

How do I get the photos taken to be transferred automatically?
cause right now I have to close my camera and open it again
Obviously I don't have the good settings in EOS Utility
or is it something that I have to set on my camera?

New comments and help will be appreciated

thank you

Joshua

Hey Joshua, so far I only have tried the WFT setting to my iPad and laptop. Hopefully I can try the other settings this weekend. I have used EOS Utility with all my other 1 series and WFT's.
