as to the CF card not surviving the wash. not true. total wash and dry Lexar 1000x. in my D4s right now. it will never be sold though. we humans make more then a few errors. one shirt, too many pockets. hot day needed the next. last year on the run. squeaky clean too.

USB thumb drives, CF cards, what else do you wash?

There is a database of camera/card combinations here:
http://www.robgalbraith.com/multi_pagee519.html?cid=6007

Some cards do better in certain cameras.

That was a nice site for tests, but is sadly neglected since Galbraith moved to other pursuits.

Honestly, I've used whatever was the cheapest for the size in the past. SD cards are really about the same. And with price these days, you could even get a nice SanDisk 16GB for cheap.

In the past I've used Kingston, SanDisk, Transcend, and generic Microcenter brands. I recently got a 32GB Microcenter class 10 for about $15 and it works great! Brand isn't really important. Just don't get the super cheap Chinese generic ones.

The only thing I ever pay attention to is the class. For my older T1i, I don't get the fancy ones that give great write speeds. I make sure it's class 10 just because they aren't much more expensive, and for video they are required. I've never had one fail yet. They've been washed in the laundry many times too

Same here... as long as it's a known brand and is UHS-1 then I'll buy based on price. And SD cards are dirt cheap compared to CF cards, which has always irked me.

Perhaps some brands are more reliable in the long run than others, but there are so many variables related to card failure that this is not something I usually worry about. I usually end up buying Transcend, simply because they always seem to offer the best mb/s for the buck and have a decent reputation

Sandisk, Kingston and PNY are what I used. All great and not a single fail. Personally, I stick with those brands

I've never had a problem with any card, CF or SD. I'm now solely on SD and almost all of my current cards are Sandisk. I've also used a few Transcend cards and they've been very reliable too. I pay attention to where I buy though; generally only reputable dealers and I avoid eBay for cards.

Hoodman makes steel based on chip cards.

Panasonic is the gold standard but I believe they've stopped making or stopped shipping recently and any you do find now are priced very high. It may not be the fastest but if I were going to Everest that's what I would take along with a live backup system of course.

Samsung is also extremely well made and save their best chips for themselves.

Everyone else, you're just rolling the dice. Lexar, sandisk, etc, just buy the most expensive version they make because it undergoes more testing for the most part. Generally true for lexar at least, sandisk focuses more on speed than reliability.

for the most part Hoodman is a lot of bluster

panasonic is just switching gears to a new line promoting class 3
http://panasonic.net/avc/sdcard/product_lineup/index.html

samsung cards are nothing special that i have found.

SD has a serious identity issue. so the marketing squads do their best to try to differentiate their products. and that's pretty hard.

I recall seeing a torture test and it was so long ago I can't remember if the Hoodman Raw steel did the best or the worst now.

I've always seen positive reviews and had good experiences with Samsung's higher end cards. Good transfer rates with a better price per gig compared to SanDisk.

Even Samsung's higher-end cards are not very fast, are they?

Sandisk has always been very reliable to me, but Sony ones are always on sale and those are tempting.
