What would be a comfortable and good quality walking around bag?

The focus will primarily be family portraits, events, and freelance PJ

Plan to use an assistant to aid with OCF and carry a spare body.

Primarily using a Nikon D600 mounted with a Nikon 28-70mm F/2.8
A longish lens...Currently debating a Nikon 80-200 f/2.8 AF-d vs the Nikon 85mm or 100mm prime
50mm f/1.4
backup SB-24 generation flash
Young Nu triggers
cards
batteries,
Sekonic 758 lightmeter
Backup body

What kind of bag are you looking for? Shoulderbag, backpack,...?

For walk around, I highly recommend a shoulderbag, but with that much gear you might not like that.
I also have a shoulderbag that I designed myself and made out of leather. It's like an improved version of the Ona Brixton in Cognac. (which is a pretty good messenger bag, almost same dimensions)
It fits a D800 with normal lens attached, 70-200 with turned around hood, 105mm and a sb-900. Also a laptop and a V1 with detached lens, my phone, wallet,... But I wouldn't recommend filling a shoulderbag to it's limit. For a shoulderbag to walk around with all day I would only do body+lens and max 2 additional primes. Then it will be perfect to carry around all day.

I got a backpack for when I have to take everything I might need: a Lowepro Vertex 200.
It can fit 2 bodies, 1 with 70-200, a 35 1.4, 105mm and another prime, 3 SB-900's and the SU-800 commander.
If your backpack is good, you can easily carry 30kg for a couple of days.

I have a LowPro sling back that's good enough for a non-gripped body, two lenses, and a flash (or 3 lenses total) and a few cards. It's good, and I used that while in Europe last year for 12 days.

I also have a Kelly Moore Thirst Relief back. It's inconspicuous, so it's nice to know if you're in a highly populated area with high rate of theft/mugging, you can carry that and not worry so much about someone cutting a strap and taking it.

Although lately I've been using my Herschel backpack with a Crumpler large insert. It works really well! I recommend the inserts if you want to get a non-camera bag and make it into one.

I use somethin' like this:

Keeps the weight off the neck and shoulders. Provides faster access.

I'm all for functionality but this is not a good look...at least not for me.

Currently, I use this one:

I've been eyeing that Roamagrapher bag...looks great!!

Plainly more functional and accessible than a shoulder bag:

I was scrounging thru some old gear and found the BELT!

I may try it out a few times with some of the attachments.

The Think Tank Retro 10 is the one I'm leaning towards. If it is too small, I will pass it onto my wife and will look at the Think Tank 20 or just buy a second 10

We finally see you! Achievement unlocked.

Back on topic, if it works for you then great. I don't doubt the functionality and accessibility of a belt system and, in the past, I've used the Think Tank belt with a spider holster albeit no lens pouches.
