No exposure compensation in manual mode?
No AF at f/8?

Yup, should have read

"does not correct and error whereby the use of M mode and Auto ISO is crippled"

Haha! I didn't notice any errors in the Korean but the 6D menu gave me a warning after the update: "Irregular communication with battery. Do you still want to use it?" So looks like Canon has sniffed out my STK clone. My genuine LP-E6 is fine...

If they're killing more third-party batteries, they can keep this update- I have a pair that work very well, in addition to my OEM's.

Should have read:

"Does not fix noobie misconception that they are somehow controlling exposure manually if Auto ISO is enabled"

I'm not sure what you mean by that. I've run into this issue on every Canon camera I've shot- they really need to fix it. The functionality can't be replicated otherwise.

I took it to mean that, in MANUAL mode, your camera should not AUTO anything, least of all the ISO, Aperture, or Shutter speed.

Well, here's the thing- you have two dials, already dedicated to shutter speed and aperture. Assuming you want per-shot control of those two variables, and considering that cameras these days can handle higher-ISOs just fine, it seems reasonable to let the metering system figure out the 'correct' exposure.

Except when it doesn't; in this case, you'd want to be able to tell the camera to shoot brighter or darker than what's metered, and the way to do that is through exposure compensation in manual mode.

If they did a firmware update that allowed 1/8000 ss and 1/200 flash sync, I might buy one.

These things are almost definitely software limitations, not hardware. It's not like they were conserving space with the shutter mechanism by throwing a full frame REBEL-grade shutter in the camera. It still takes up the same amount of space.

I still think it's just wrong that they did that to a camera, then still charged almost $2k for it.

Are you including focus in that?

Auto focus is generally accepted, why not ISO with exposure compensation?

My workaround is Av with minimum shutter speed. I can get compensation while still having control over aperture and a workable shutter speed.

When using a flash I almost always use full manual including ISO.

EOS Remote wifi util doesn't work.
Phone disconnects because internet is 'slow'

I was hoping the new update would address this issue

Canon could bring out the finest camera ever made for $500 and you'd still complain that Nikon were better.
Your drivel really gets boring.

John, I'm slow this morning. You lost me there somehow. In Manual mode, adjusting shutter speed, aperture, or ISO is exposure compensation. That's how it works. What am I misunderstanding?

You probably know this but on some newer Canons if you leave the ISO on auto in M mode the camera will try and obtain a correct exposure by changing the ISO while leaving the SS and AP as you set them.

This is all very well and clever but if you don't like the exposure the camera has chosen you have no means of changing it - ie you can't use 'exposure compensation' in M mode, which would be quite useful (you could alter it so it didn't underexpose a white dress by trying to make it grey, but still have control over depth of field and shutter speed for example). You can do this with the new FW on the 1Dx (I think) and it would be good if the other cameras did this too.
