Scream? or Yawn?
Nice capture!

I'd suggest some vignetting or darkening at the top. I'm getting drawn to the eye/ear of the hippo in the top background.

Hmm.
Eyes of hippo in background are meant to be a secondary subject. Going for the relationship between the aggressive display and a cant be bothered hippo in the BG.

I think you have the "can't be bothered" covered by the entire rest of the herd, with the single aggressive display in the middle of all of it.

That upper hippo is also the only one that has really bright highlights from water on the skin below the eye. Maybe bring those down if you don't want to darken the eye area?

EXIF say "22.8". I am guessing feet but could be meters. From memory I would have guessed somewhere in between..may 40-50 feet.
At this hippo pool most of us spent our time leaning against a fence composed of one long piece of rough wood on posts. Our feet were on a slight muddy incline that rapidly dropped down to the water. The nearest hippos were probably 10 feet away. You dont want to go sliding down or venture in front of the fence!
I have no idea how many hippos were in there, since they are mostly submerged with eyes, ears and only a bit more showing, except during aggressive displays. Must have been 50+, probably more.
And they stink. Constantly recycling the grasses they eat at the ends of the day, creating a foul cloud of noxious gas as you get anywhere close.
