Low light is really where the D4s shines. Took it out for a spin at a level 10 meet in Boston, all shots below were 1/2000, ISO25600 and f2.8 with 70-200 out of camera except cropping and resized for web. Why 1/2000? Because I can and gets rid of all the toe blurs.

Same settings as my D4, 51 dynamic AF. Initial AF acquisition is noticeably faster, and AF rarely drifts. As someone mentioned over at SS, it is a game changer!

Just curious, are the girls used to big cameras? When I watch the Olympics it seems like there's so much pressure on them, do big lenses add to it and make em nervous?

Very impressive, John! I am a Canon shooter and upgraded to the 1DX in December and am impressed more and more every day at what that camera can do, not only with high ISO, low noise output, but the focusing zones are out of this world! Sometimes too smart for it's own good. Looks like you've got your hands on a winner as well. Thanks for sharing.

Older girls are used to the cameras, especially at the higher levels. We try to stay invisible and stay out of line of sight, especially shooting the lower level girls. It's all part of the game really.

Yeah one of my shooters swears by the 1DX, it's pretty impressive in terms of high ISO and amount of detail it retains.

Thanks. If you're constantly indoors at poor-lit venues the D4s is a no brainer. Of course D4/D3s aren't too shabby either

John…these are really nice. I'm the same as Billy where I upgraded to a 1DX a while back but I rarely spend time in the 25K ISO….however, it's nice to know the gear we have is capable of handling these challenges and I would feel very comfortable there. Keep us updated on its performance and the levels you push it to.

Lovely pictures!! Have you shot super fast action with the D4s? Like downhill ski racing or another sport where the subject is moving 30-70 mph?

Great demonstration of the D4s's low light capabilities John. With this camera (and the 1Dx), we seem to have entered a new era with "no gym left behind".

Not all roses though............it's much harder to find oof shots, which changes the culling process completely!

Really impressive. My daughter graduated last year so I'm out of the gymnastics game -- probably a good thing for my wallet given how these came out.

Have you always (relatively) used the 51 pt AF or is that something you went to with the D4?
