Love the background and the snow flying, but the position of the skis bugs me a bit.

It's a dramatic composition, great color vs b&w, good lifestyle portrait. Like everything about it.

I decided to put the skier on the other side for a more balance composition.

IMO, the first composition works better. Here's why. In the first one there is a strong connection between the skier, the direction his body and skis are pointing, and the path up the hill delineated by the tree line. It all makes sense. In the second one the composition does work great if you consider the two elements as separate and unrelated. But the only connection is that its snowing. The first one tells a more interesting story than the second one, IMO.
