Does anyone have experience changing the D600 eyepiece to a round one? I've seen a few people online do it using a three piece assembly of various Nikon parts, as well as some using the Tenpa magnifying eyepieces (1.22 and 1.36). Does anyone have experiences doing this? Is it worth it?

I purchased a Tenpa 1.22x for my D700 a few years back, came beautifully packaged and it presents well, but the optical ability is not quite as good as the Nikon DK-17m IMO.

I changed mine to a round one following these instructions:

http://photolisticlife.com/2012/11/12/convert-the-d600-viewfinder-into-a-round-viewfinder-works-with-d5100-d7000-and-others/

I prefer the round eyepiece especially when I'm wearing my glasses. The eyecup also helps block light a little better on those bright sunny days. The only thing I dislike is it protrudes more than I initially thought, but I can live with it.

I followed the same instructions and just made this change last week. Quick, simple, and I really like the difference. Great "upgrade" for the $!

I use the Nikon bit kit for a daily use round eyecup on my DX bodies - distinct improvement. When I go wanderin' the marsh in search of small critters I switch to the Tenba magnifier as this allows me to really look 'em in the eye when working close. Helps me make sure I've got the focus where I want it.
