I don't have any 62 - XX step down rings to try it out, but has anyone tried using a slightly smaller filter, ideally a 58mm on the Fuji 23mm lens ?

I'd much rather be able to share a 58mm filter set with the 14/23/35, rather than buy 62mm filters just for the 23mm.

I know I could also use a 58 - 62 step up ring, but then that makes using hoods impossible and subjects the filter to flare.

I'm hoping a 58mm, perhaps a thin one, may be able to avoid vignetting on the 23mm

You'll need a 62 for the 56mm lens so ....

That is a good point, a 62mm ND would certainly get enough use to warrant a purchase

Be nice if I could share something more seldom used like a IR72, Polarizer, 10 stop etc, especially since I've already got them in 58mm though

And then when you get a 10-24 you can invest once more in 72mm filters...

I'm going to pick up a nice 2 stop ND to use with the 56 and 23mm. I have a vari-ND that is kind of cheap...it works brilliantly with the 23mm, at least stopped down (I haven't tried it other than very long exposures), but on the 56mm, it's horrible....massive reduction in sharpness and really bad effects to the bokeh as well (squiggles in the OOF highlights). So, a plain, high quality ND will be the trick for shooting wide apertures in mid-day sun).

Any particular reason you're opting for a 2 stop vs. 3? I need to pick one up for my 23mm (and 55-200 because of this stinking low 1/180 x sync) but was leaning towards a 3 stop to help ensure I can shoot wide open at high noon without clipping too many highlights... But a 2 stop would be more practical for use on the 55-200...

I'd second just getting a couple 62mm NDs. I hate those damn step up/down rings.

Well, I have to say I've only used flash in sunlight on one occasion, so the need for more to enable sync speed stuff is not really an issue...I just don't do outdoor portraits or event shooting often. At f/1.2 and 1/4000s, a 2 stop ND should enable proper exposure in the vast majority of situations. Heck, even bare, I was able to pull almost all the highlight detail in any situation just from RAW at ISO 200 and 1/4000s. Only in extreme circumstances did I lose detail. 2 stops should be more than enough. I have a Vari-ND that works fine with my 23, but is awful with the 56, so I may also get an 8 stop or something as well for better quality on really long exposure shots.

The 55-200 also has 62mm filter thread. If you're using ND with lots of lenses it makes sens to invest in a system like Lee or Cokin. Lee seven5 system works with all the current lenses. Don't know if the seven5 will work with big lenses like the 10-24. I do use the normal sized Lee kit I had from my previous DSLR.

Nope, I think 67mm is the max for the seven5 system unfortunately. That's why 72mm is a big downer for me. I do still have some full size filters from the DSLR days though.

I did a Google it and 72mm is the biggest size for Lee seven5. So 72mm WA adapter ring will probably do.

What do you know! I could've sworn 72mm wasn't listed on their web site when I last looked. Great news!

Edit: I guess I was looking at this page, which is only RF-75 rings, which max out at 67mm, while seven5 goes up to 72mm.
