I've been looking to update my website to make it more mobile/tablet friendly. I do a ton of work on the SEO side of things and bookings are pretty good, but I'd like to make sure I'm not being left behind on new website design/methods. I'm currently using a "full screen" style website

One theme I see a lot recently is something like this:

http://themes.themegoods.com/?theme=Mercury

or VSCO's website: https://vsco.co/

It seems to be the new "in vogue" look - maybe not this exact execution, but you get the idea.

What are your thoughts on this look?

It's great, just not for photographers.

It looks a lot like the one I just started setting up on my site called Trego, but designed more for photographers. I use the sliding text shortcodes as a way to advertise instead of having a static image on my front pages. I like it, but it is too early to tell what others think. Those shortcodes can be time consuming to get just right though.

These themes look nice.

Do you know if these themes are extendable?

I don't like the fact that Pro photo isn't extendable beyond the options that it offers.

Why be locked into a single template. Look at Ultimatum theme which allows you to build almost any template you want using the Word press platform. Options include fully responsive designs. Usually a discount coupon available for the pro version if you do a search.

Because we are photographers and not web designers. If we can find a template that require minimal tweaking, then thats a bonus.

I like it.

You can manipulate a WordPress theme to death so you are never really locked in. I can build my WordPress theme 30 different ways.

Advice as a designer, dive into the comments before you decide to buy the theme. Comments can be very telling on the theme and its support. Even theme with good ratings.

Pretty much anything is possible with some custom CSS/back end FTP with those themes on a private hosted WordPress. I find the Prophoto pricy...
