I'm heading to Sedona in April. I'll be from/to Phoenix. Any tips and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Nice map there, Hutch!

Hiking up Bear Mountain should be high on the list. West Fork is really sweet, but it's a hike to save for rainy days where there is no crowd and one can explore in peace. Otherwise all the canyons in the Secret Mountain area are really good, but still require some scrambling to find the best shots.

You can also find some good red rock views along the north/west rim of Doe mountain. I haven't figured out how to get up it yet, but Mescal Mtn should also have some excellent photo ops from the top around it's perimeter.

You can shoot Cathedral Rock, but without the fall colors, monsoon storms and/or the full moon, it's not as interesting as the canyons. The river has been low too.

Slick Rock State Park is a must see. But get there early before sunrise as you want to be able to shoot it without any direct light in the scene.

You mean "Slide" Rock State Park? Is this place the sunrise shooting place?

For anyone going to Sedona this time of year, at least assume you will get cloudless skies. In that case, the canyons will offer good photography during the first and last couple hours of light. But Sedona will be pretty scruffy and leafless until April/May. The canyons have a lot of dense foliage, so getting a clean sandstone canyon image is pretty tough right now. Again, fall and monsoon season are best.

Slide Rock SP is about 1500 feet below the rim of Oak Creek Canyon, so you will get indirect light during sunrise and sunset alike. Be prepared to deal with obnoxious crowds if you're going on a weekend.

My suggestions would include helicopter tour (better with the doors off, try later in a day for golden hour). Also, Cathedral Rock (@ Red Rock crossing, afternoon location), Schnebly Vista (early morning, access off I-17 from Schnebly Rd.) West Fork can be a zoo but only for the first mile or so, the rest is much more peaceful. You will need to cross the creek multiple times so choose proper footwear.
Also you can visit V-V Ranch, for an excellent set of rock art, if interested.
I personally like Devils Bridge - even if the Bridge is not too phoogenic itself, the hike is short and enjoyable.
There are some nice spots off Grasshopper Point, depending on water level in the creek.
There may be nice clouds in April - even if usually sky is glorious blue.
As Jim menioned, Slide Rock State park, for sunrise, need to get down to the creek for golden reflections.

Sasha.

Last weekend we had a few inches of rain, creek was up about 4', but is now back to "normal". Buds are currently bursting, many fruit trees are in full bloom. Will probably be a lot of new green leaves byApril, and, since we had a little rain, may even be some wildflowers.
Get a trail guide-book at any of the local stores. Check out the Hike House on 179 across from Telaquepaque. They are full of information.
Lots to photograph; you won't get them all, but come and enjoy.
