Has any one heard when the Nikon version will be on the shelves?

All information so far points to April or May.

Tamron's own info says April as well.

http://www.tamron.co.jp/en/lineup/a011/index.html

May want to throw in a pre-order at B&H, it will likely be very popular initially.

May have to get a new lens mount to fit wimberly. Tamron's site has listed nikon mount so I wonder if there is an adapter for the wimberly mount.

Yeah, everyone is saying April. B&H had a note saying March 31st for a while, but they removed it recently.

So the Canon folk are the guinea pigs.

Better late than broken.

You'll have to get a plate to mount on the tripod collar so it can work on a wimberly head, yes. The Nikon mount Tamron is talking about is the lens mount to the camera body.

I 'had' the Tamron 150-600 for a few weeks, Canon mount on a 1DMKIII older pro body. The lens was returned for focus issues in the AI Servo mode. Known issues on Canon bodies exist though Tamron had a customers lens and requested their body (7D) and say it performed fine............?

Well experienced Canon shooters such as Tony (Imagemaster) experienced same problems on newer pro bodies.

The lens is colorful and sharp. At f/6.3 it certainly requires some decent light to get it going on focus. Quality of build was very pleasing, weight was very easy to handle, it does get quite long when zoomed out to 600 which is where you will most likely use it.

It is well worth the money and if you are not a BIF primary shooter you will be very pleased. Hopefully there won't be issues on the Nikon release to deal with.

If anyone has more questions I would be happy to share my experiences.

At least Canon shooters are good for something.

I've pre-ordered at the local B&M store. I've got my name on the second one that comes in their door.

How big of an IQ hit is it going from 400mm to 600mm?

F/8 is a nice improvement in IQ. ^^^^
Technique is very important when you get to 500 and 600, no room for error. If on a close subject you are either spot on or way off on sharpness if you don't properly focus or perhaps take time to Micro Adjust your gear.
