I hope the ID on this bird is correct. He has been coming around for about 2 weeks now and I can get so close to him.

I back that ID. Looks like one in breeding plumage too, congrats.

Yup...these guys and their ruby-crowned cousins are often approachable in my neck of the woods (which is rare for just about any other bird). But they rarely sit still for more than a nanosecond. These are nice images with great exposure control, especially given the bright background.

Thanks Herb! my book seems to indicate that the coloring on their head should be a little more red?it's amazing now that I have that 300 all the birds I can shoot!

Thanks Greg. my little guy doesn't mean even seem to care that I'm there! I did a little highlight recovering adjustment in Photoshop cs6 and a tad bit of sharpening but that's about it!

Great shots of this guy TB!! I have so few of these because they tend to jump around and head deeper into brambles. I have never seen them out in the open like this. Excellent

Thanks Tim. He seems pretty friendly as I watched him a few days ago without my camera and he got quite close to me and never realized I was there. I hope he stays around for a bit.

Thanks Birdie...I am looking forward to trying out my 300 on the D600 I have coming. I know it will only be a true 300 but this guy gets so close I could shoot him at 100 so I may have to use my 80-200.

Sweet shots of a sweet looking little bird. I've only see a few kinglets before, and this set makes me want more contact. Well done Scott.

I concur on the ID as well. I also agree with Greg; these guys are even more fidgety than chickadees. Hard to nail one down. Nice job on that. Very nice shots.
