1. I made it down to Alabama to shoot the Bama Bash last Saturday.

I shot these uphill, in a snow storm, while standing up in a canoe...

I was wondering if you caught Billy's car going up in flames.

Lanned, thanks for taking time to comment. I was just lucky on that shot.

Yeah MRM4 I was actually in the right place at the right time for a change. A very rare occurrence.

I kinda like the symmetry of the first shot too.

Thanks again guys.

Thanks Ted. That track had the most people on atv's I have ever seen in one place. There was actually a pretty serious accident involving one that day.

Welcome to FM apexphotos! Thanks for taking time to comment. You should contact a dirt track near you and jump on in! Even if you have to buy a pit pass it's easy to get access to the action.

No. 7 is a great shot taken under trying conditions, but I sure do like No. 1 as well.

How do you adjust camera setting for different light sources around track or just leave in on auto and fix in PP ?

Dubspeed55,

Once the sun goes down I usually shoot manual exposure in the neighborhood of f2.8, iso 6400 and ss 1/200 for ambient. Same thing for flash except I'll up the ss to around 1/400 to get a couple stops below ambient and dial the flash in to taste. I use auto white balance for flash and ambient. Light cycling is, surprisingly, not a problem shooting ambient and not an issue with a flash because the flash overpowers the ambient.

In the day time I shoot aperture priority a lot to allow for shadows and or changing light conditions from one end of the track to the other.

Hope that helps

skullbonephoto,

Thanks. That shot has gotten a lot of attention for me. I have picked up a couple new contacts and a pretty decent gig off of it. Funny thing is it wasn't a difficult shot. Just happened to be there.

Yes. For two reasons.

1. As light changes from sun/cloud/shade/twilight so does WB. Auto WB makes the necessary adjustments faster and more accurately than I can.

2. I have spent a ton of time dialing in custom daylight WBs and I have to say the payoff hasn't been worth the effort. There hasn't been that much difference in the results.
