I may grab a 600EX at $449. That's only $10 more then the refurbished price which never seem to be in stock.

Not a single supertele with a huge amount of fat they could trim, included. They should be offering rebates starting at about $1.5K and going to about $4K on those suckers.

I agree, but wishful thinking on our part. No real incentive for them to do so as no one is pressuring them. If Sigma would only work on some super tele's with their recent IQ performance.

That still wouldn't worry Canon. They'd need to see a strong sustained drop in sales before they acted.

I thought Canon was done with "mail-in" style rebates? Why are they going back to that waste of cardboard and postage? That seems so 1990's. What was wrong with the instant rebate system upon purchase?

Besides, it ruins the box, which in the future may be just as valuable as the lens to some collectors.

"What was wrong with the instant rebate system upon purchase?"

Instant rebate means 100% redemption.

Mail-in in rebate means much lower redemption rates, perhaps even < 50%, as people forget or fail to complete properly. So the overall cost of the 'campaign' is much lower for Canon.

Wonder why Canon has the speedlights as instant savings. More built up stock maybe, and want them to sell quicker?

Add to that the stupid cash cards they give that are difficult to use. What happened to the good ol' days when you received a check in the mail?

I literally bought 3 of these lenses on the 28th & still don't have them yet, credit card hasn't been processed even. What is the likelihood they might take pity of me for ordering 2 days early without knowing?
