I have been commenting (and lurking) lately rather than posting, not for lack of images, but for lack of processed images. In an attempt to break that trend, here are a few from a recent trip to the Tampa Bay area. Amazing opportunities and approachable avians, can't wait to go back. Yellow-Crowned Night Heron, Roseate Spoonbill, Wood Stork.

Advice/comments/criticism all appreciated.

Greg

Found this guy (or girl) at Fort De Soto without paying for the famous eguide

My shutter speed was higher than needed

so that I would be ready for these guys

Hey lurker, what's up? Three very nice shots with the YCNH being my pick of the set although the color palette of the spoonbill is quite special.

Thanks, Ken! I think this individual has become habituated and is very easy to approach.

Thanks for stopping by, Eric! (And thanks for not cluttering up this thread with a double post).

I'm not quite sure why my ratio of lurking/posting has increased; my wife claims that I waste just as much time looking at bird photos as I always have, and I have a hard drive full of images that are halfway decent...I'm sure it's an FM phase from which I will grow out. (Or up, or whatever).

Roseate Spoonbill Color (and Flamingo color) is interesting...it's clearly carotenoids in the diet, but why some species exhibit it and most don't is an interesting evolutionary mystery. (I smell a research project).

Appreciate it, Christian! It was getting dark, but I wish I had a few more stops (and DOF).

Thanks, Chris! Mine too! The YNCH portrait is dramatic, but I worked harder for the Wood Stork IF. (And no baiting, nest-disturbing, or paying clients were involved, although I did use a kayak!)

Advice Clearly you need a shooting partner!

Super set Greg. The opening portrait is excellent, it could very well be a studio shot. I really like the subject in 2, the saturated colors just ooze off of the screen. I'm not too keen on the bird in the bg, maybe darken it up a bit

Fine job, Greg! Beautiful detail
You did an excellent job on the Stork IF with the exposure. Those whites and darks are a nightmare
