I'm pretty new to FM but will ask some advice. I'll be heading to Grand Canyon (South rim)
early May. Have only 2 days there and want to get the most out of it. Folks I'm traveling
with won't be into hikling so I'm not wanting to abandon them and will most likely do "rim
shooting". Will also hit Sedona on the way back to Tucson. Will have Nikon D200 with
12-24, 18-55 & 85-200 lenses to capture with.

Any and all advice on "must see" locations or pointers will be appreciated.

thanx in advance

Hi Techie2, I'm pretty new to the forum too.

While I don't have a ton of experience with the Grand Canyon, I just returned from a trip there. I only spent one day at the Grand Canyon and hit the major tourist spot on the South Rim: Mather Point. While this was decent for both sunset and sunrise, I found out while exiting the park from the eastern entrance that Lippan point, and other overlooks close by, have a much better sunset view.

Unfortunately it was morning when I stopped there but I really wished I had gone there directly the evening before. It is about 20-30 min driving from the southern entrance.

I went there in, I think, 2007. The best experience of the whole trip was getting up before sunrise, getting to a great location (I'll see if I can link it on a map for you) and jumping out to a large rock / platform just off the rim. It was a little ways from all of the people around and very peaceful and quiet. One of the shots from that sunrise is here:

Here's the location I was at where I shot that photo. One of the rocks on the side of the trail 'in' the canyon.
