I was recently asked to do some shots of a Burlesque show. I had never shot burlesque before, nor had I ever been to a burlesque show before. So this was a totally new experience for me. I have done lots of concerts before, including quite a few at this particular venue, so I knew the venue. I was specifically given the task of doing portraits of the performers before and after their set. I shot quite a few back stage candids, and some portraits in a tiny little closet of a room that serves as the mechanical room/bathroom/storage room. I found the location for the portraits to be quite challenging... compared to the rest of the back stage area it was very brightly lit, and had lime green walls, and was just very tight and oddly shaped. I did the portraits with a single speedlight w/ umbrella. The back stage shots were taken with ambient light. Camera: D700 Lenses: 35mm f1.4 Ai-s (manual focus) & 24-70 f2.8 there might be one or two with my 50mm f1.2 Ai-s as well.
All in all, it was a ton of fun, and I'm pretty happy with how the shots came out. I would do it again, but might change my approach slightly.
