p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Black marks on PCB Flash tube - Is this normal?

Hi,

I just noticed this on my B1600 flash tube. Is this normal or something I should be concerned about. I tried searching, but honestly did not know what to search.

I think it's normal. Just looked at my AB1600 and AB400 and both are like that.

Thanks. My Google search got me scared. There was a thread about the tube's contacts being burnt and that was an issue.

Paul C. Buff, Inc. has excellent customer service. If you send them an e-mail with the above photo attached, all you concerns will be resolved direct from the source's mouth.

Great idea! I emailed them yesterday and they got back to me this morning!

Their reply:
Hey Justin,

Thanks for contacting us! No worries. The black residue on the inside of the flashtube is normal. Close to the legs of the tube on the inside of the glass there are getters. Getters collect the impurities burned off by the gases in the tube when it is fired.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have anymore questions.

Have a great day,
Kimberly
