p.1 #1 · Need Tips on Using Nikon PN 11

Hello All,

With preparation to summer time I found a great deal on Nikon PN 11 tube. ( I am considering to convert it to full electronic connection but in meanwhile staying full manual )

Since it is full manual tube I was hoping some of you more seasoned guys could give me some pointers on how to utilize this tube.

1. I think hardest part for me will be understanding how to expose it correctly since I cant rely on camera anymore and this will only work with shutter compensation. Also lens will only work in its max aperture so I need to learn focus stack in order to get properly sharp images ( can stop down to f22 because of afs type lens )

2. Tripod becomes my best friend now its a given.
3. Flash use I havent tried but i think it will play important role as well.

Any input is greatly appreciated !!!

Perhaps you should make it clear early on you are looking for tips, not giving them? Just a thought.

Can't help with specifics but I can't see the point of using a lens (or restricting tubes) you can only have wide open, and for macro. You are making it hard for yourself and your keeper rate is likely to be very low (discouraging), unless you are only going to do studio work of 'stationary' objects.

Have you looked at this http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/780820 and compare rigs to output.

Thank you very much on suggestion Mark I will take a look into your link

Also indeed it will be used mostly in controlled environment so I think I will work around keeper rate.

What body are you using? I use an old Nikon tube on a Canon and have stop down metering.

Wide open can be great.

If your body only meters wide open get a reading then stop it down. Open up ss the same amount.

Or you can't stop it down because af-s? Have you looked at old 55/3.5?

You don't necessarily need a tripod. But you will have to shoot several

Maybe Get a screw in diopter in addition to tubes. What lens are you going to put it on?

D700 is the body. Since its full manual tube body will give error for everything. Meter works but from my experience I have to put shutter quite low. On sunny day shooting wide open I had to use around 1/4 to 1s to get proper exposure.
