Does anyone have any experience using their iPhone as a remote trigger? It would be great to be able to use the screen as a viewfinder to compose family photos and then fire the shutter. Nikon has the "Wireless Mobile Utility" but it doesn't seem to allow you to make adjustments. Are there any third party apps out there? A quick search of the forums and Appstore don't turn up much.

Thanks

I'm specifically interested in untethered use and something that could connect through the WU-1b wireless adapter.

Which camera are you talking about? On the D4, for instance, you can just connect a pocket wifi router (or the Nikon adapter) to the ethernet interface, and then use a browser on your phone to connect and log in on the camera.

There's another app. you can buy for the iPhone (the app. is free but you need to buy the US$ hardware trigger) called Triggertrap :
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/triggertrap/id517679831?mt=8

Doesn't have the bells and whistles of Cam Ranger but also doesn't cost US$300 !

There are plenty of others too _these are just a few) :

I don't own a D610, but based on the description, you should have the same functionality with the Nikon adapter, and an iOS or Android app. Not sure however that you can 'surf' to the camera using the allocated IP address in a Browser...

Hi,

Maybe somebody's done an IOS version of dslr control software like dslrdasboard that can use a TP-Link TL-MR3040 modified to be an openwrt controller? That setup works great
on my tablet, and for $30 for the hardware...

Best,

That's really interesting as the TP-Link TL-MR3040 is the same hardware that Camranger uses, albeit rebranded. I'll have to explore this a bit more to see if the custom Camranger firmware can be installed and used with the Camranger iOS app.

I'm using CamRanger and it's great. Full intervalometer including bulb mode, auto download RAW in real time, adjust focus using LV. Expensive but worth it to me.

I've used a friends Wu-1b and found it to be a nice gimmick. I guess if your cam was on the ground or at a weird angle it could be useful. Will be interested to see what kinds of updates may come in that device though through app or firmware changes.

So far I've found the WU-1b to be slow and the Nikon app a bit cumbersome to use. The LV isn't as responsive as it should be with modern compression technologies and the file transfers seem slower than they should be over 802.11n. It's a nice idea on Nikon's part, but overall poorly executed. I've yet to find another app to interface with the system, but I'll keep hunting and waiting for future updates.
