p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Jammed locking wheel on Canon flash

The locking wheel on my Canon 430EX is really and most sincerely stuck - luckily it’s in the shoe of the flash end of a Canon off-camera shoe cord ( with shoe ends separated to patch in different lengths of cable ) and not the camera itself. Must have over-tightened it. So far haven’t been able to budge it with bare hands, or using a rubber jar gripper, afraid to try pliers for fear of breaking something ( also thought of spritzing the lock with oil, but not sure that that's safe either ), did try rocking the flash side to side a little in the shoe per googled advice, but that hasn’t done it either. I need the flash cable. Can anyone suggest something to try? Would really appreciate some help.
Thanks, PJ

Try a small strap wrench.

Don't know if I'd use oil on plastics. I would probably try a wrench 1st, but be sure you're turning in correct direction. Don't know if freezing or heating would change the expansion/contraction of the parts that are bound?

Thanks for good suggestions, Dan and John. The strap wrench sounds a good bet - I think I'll try that before a regular ( adjustable ) wrench. I thought of trying a little 3-in-1 if 'dry' force doesn't work, but had same qualm about using it on plastic.
