p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · A Wonderful Mesa Morning

As a follow up to the Misty Mesa Night shot is Mesa Arch in Canyonlands in Utah. The clouds had cleared away from the east except for some on the horizon during sunrise, but as the sun was rising in the sky the clouds moved back over the arch and created a pretty nice dynamic display. I shot this from the left side of the arch, losing Washer Woman in the image, but I liked the angle that was created with the arch.

All comments are welcome,

Jim

Very nice and different too. Hard to move around this much during the popular season. I like the snow and the clouds and I especially like that you included the entire arch. This angle also eliminates that ugly bush at the right side.

Thanks Ben, I had the same thought about that bush on the right, and this got me right in front of the bush on the left. I had the tripod lowered down to just a foot off the rocks to get this.

Hi Jim,

Great light and processing as usual. I feel a bit pulled the left because there isn't a cloud feature or ground feature on the right balancing out the arch. I suggest a crop off the right hand side getting rid of the land not under the arch and the blue sky edge.

Nice job. The clouds make it for me. I never even considered a composition from the left side of the arch, but it really works in this image!

A wonderful shot Jim. I like this angle, I haven't seen a photo of that arch from this angle before. I like the mixture of warm & cool colors. Good work!

Hi Tim,

Thanks so much, I am glad you liked the shot and I appreciate the suggestion. It actually wasn't until I posted the shot online here that I did have a similar thought. So thanks for bringing up that idea.

Hey Deb,

Glad you like it! Those clouds were cool and I got them by sticking around a bit. If I had left after the initial sunrise, I would have missed out.

Thanks!

Thanks Todd! Yeah, I am glad I was able to come up with that angle. It for sure helps shooting when there are not many people around there so one can move around a bit and let the creative juices flow.
