I'm surprised it took them so long. The world can always use another kiss!

not sure i get the RT version of the ring light though . can you disconnect the ringlight portion of the setup and use the control part as a ST-e3 replacement ?

The whole macro light arrangement is not as good as the old OM system, which let you plug in either twin lights or a ring light to the same controller.

I have the Canon twin light, which is almost identical to the old ring light, and the two things that make it not modern is the lack of weather sealing and the audible whine. Here's Canon's description of the new ring light:

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/speedlite_flash_lineup/macro_ring_lite_mr_14ex_ii

They claim shorter recycling times, but don't mention weathersealing.

There is a valid use for a macro light as a master, so that you can trigger a light for the background.

Still the same old 18MP sensor... incredible.

The 1200D shows me Canon has almost given up in this segment. Should have just killed the 1100D and let the SL1 be the entry level.

Hell they couldn't even give the 1200D digic V, let alone 6. Luckily of all their announcements, the G1X II is a stand out.

My thoughts exactly. At least the 100D had a differentiator - the form factor. Also, they will run out of spare numeric IDs real soon.

I would not mind the old 18MP sensor as such here. It's the lowest end in the lineup. But I hope the sensor stays here as its last iteration.

I'm sad today. Still the same sensor, so still the same DR. Yes, I'm very sad today because that means we have to bear the same whiners on this forum!

I'm OK with them giving up on this dying segment of the market, so long as they actually invest the engineering higher up the food chain. Although, I am not sure either of these announcements is worthy of even being called "announcements": another overpriced ringflash doesn't really do it for me either

My guess is that they had a lot of Digic 4 processors and 18mp sensors left over and are using the "updated T3" to get rid of them. Mainly to soccer moms, who do not care about DR and noise levels. I believe the T3 was only 12mp.

How many times are Canon going to keep recycling this camera and giving it a different name? It's turning into a running joke, really.

Does this set a new world record for slowest zoom lens ever? f/6.9 on a 1/2.3" sensor is like f/40 FF.

I think you are confusing depth of field with exposure. "Slower" lenses refer to lenses that require longer exposures at the same ISO. While it is well known that tiny sensors inherently have bigger depth of field compared to larger sensors, that does not make them "slower".

I'm not confusing anything and of course I was talking about DOF equivalency to FF. Might be a good lens for macro. Again this is the slowest max aperture I've ever seen on a lens in this class.
