Wow, that's a very aggressive price for the body.

WoW! Now, I have to see if I can get this instead of the A7 to save me some
moolah.

Waiting now for the obligatory comparison for this aps-c sensor with the full frame
A7.

I'm more concerned with the EVF comparison between this and the NEX-6. Otherwise, it looks like a winner from here.

I just saw on DPreview that the body is made of magnesium alloy. This is a pretty aggressive price. They also say the AF is pretty impressive. As impressive a camera as the E-M1 and X-T1 are, when you look at this price, it would be hard for any NEX owner who might be interested in another system to leave.

It's interesting that Sony claims it's the world fastest AF, period, locking in at 0.6 sec. I had expected them to be competitive but still behind Fuji and Olympus, but Sony is claiming they are second to none. Interesting. Looking forward to in depth review in the future.

I wonder if they even believe it when they say fastest AF in the world.

Otherwise, looks like the best camera per dollar Sony is making. If only they didn't use the cartoon nex interface.

I may as well put the video here too

I'm die hard fuji, but it has to be said: this looks better than the x-t1 in some very important ways (AF, fps, mp, PRICE)

I'm curious how Sony makes any money, undercutting every competitor. A7R is $1200 less than D800E. This one is hundreds less than Olympus and Fuji. It's nuts, but I'm glad they're doing it.

The EVF and ergonomics are a let down. I think the Oly EM1/5,A65/A77/A99/A7x EVFs were around 2.x Megadots right? Why use an EVF with barely half that resolution for this model? Were there really any cost savings by doing that or was it just to create an artificial stratification between the classes of cameras?

Also the body is almost 100% NEX and it probably has the same silly menu system. I thought with Sony killing NEX brand that they would also rethink the P&S controls and unify with "Alpha" functional style.

Edit:
On second thought. The ergonomics are not as bad as I thought. I get put off a lot by P&S control schemes using the 4way directional button and use of menus to change settings.

So I guess the only thing that I can say sucks compared to NEX6/7 is the EVF

Mirrorless should be cheaper than DSLRs. Way fewer parts and complexity. Compared to Fuji and Oly though? I'm not so sure. Sony's good lenses are pricey, so there's that.

This hugely undercuts the price of the X-T1. The X-T1 has some significant advantages, namely the control scheme and EVF, but 50% cheaper is pretty compelling.

Maybe explains why Sony is exiting the computer/tv world.

they don't really, their credit rating is junk and the whole corp is weaving over and under break even point every year.
however they just sold their pc/vaio business and their sensor business is making them money, so they're probably here to stay, at least as far as cameras are concerned.

Bottom line: enjoy the prices.

Now that I've seen the specs, photos, and video first look, I cannot believe people are whining about this not being a true NEX-7 successor. I thought the same when this camera was just a rumor, but man, look at that video first look. This is a beast. People are whining about loss of Tri-Nav. Ok, I give them that, but rally, Tri-Nav was always a compromise for those used to DSLRs. This layout is closer to the A7(R), and I much prefer it over Tri-Nav. All those customizeable buttons. The better grip. This camera is superior to the NEX-7 to me, with the exception of the EVF. However, the delay for the EVF to turn on in the NEX-7 was so frustrating that I never used it.

I'm not saying this is a preorder for me, but I've been looking for a fast AF camera for zooms to complement my A7R for primes. This camera just shot to the top of the list for me, esp since I own E lenses already and the menus and controls will be common across cameras.

As much as I dislike the NEX cameras, I must say the AF looks very promising in that parrot shoot.
Most of the Sony products use a low price high volume strategy. It does help consumers in the short run as to we can enjoy lower price for products but in the long run the manufacturers probably don't make a profit and end up bankrupt - ever wonder why Sony has been losing money all these years?

The evf on the nex7 never really looked right even with color and contrast adjustments, it crushed blacks and was over saturated.
