p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · DSLR movie software??

Those of you that shoot video with your camera and put together any type of movie or show, what software do you use to organize and process your videos? I do know that there is Final Cut Pro, which we do not have. There is also iMovie which we do have but limited, can any of you offer any suggestions?

I use Adobe Premier Pro CS6. Works well.

Had Premier CS6, now have Premier CC - both work good, but if you've never used software like it before you'll find there is a bit of a learning curve.

I know Adobe also makes Premier Elements - that may be easier if you don't need a lot of heavy lifting.

Sony's Movie Studio Platinum and its pro bother Vegas are IMO the most intuitive and easy to use products out there. They're also quite powerful.

Hi Steve, thanks for the info...premier elements might be just what we need to start. I'll look into it.

Thanks.

Vegas Pro? I think my friend Ron uses that for his goPro cameras and video. But I'll check Sony's movie platinum and see what will work best.

Thank you for the reply.

iMovie is horrible.... I use Final Cut at work, and Premiere CS6 on my personal mac. I have also been doing some After Effects work recently.

This is my most recent project done for my boxing club. Entirely shot with the D800

Yes, Vegas Pro is rock solid. Movie Studio Platinum I have and is fantastic as well just doesn't have all the pro features of course. Movie Studio platinum represents outstanding value though with all the authoring tools as well as being able to use your video card (NVidia I think) and every core of your cpu to help things speed along.

The stability is what I like though and the very thorough tutorials there are out there. (Movie Studio Zen on YouTube for instance.)

Cheers.

There is no "need" to transcode in FCP X ... though many folks will recommend you do so. It is not required. FCP X (v10.0.9 and 10.1) work very well with AVCHD files directly.

In my experience, working on very tight deadlines posting video stories to news sites online, I rarely if ever transcode the original video to save time. FCP X works great, even on my ancient MBP. I really like the improved, library, project and event updates in FCP X v10.1 ... very welcome upgrade.

Hi there,

Just a question about Premiere Pro...

Do I have to convert my .mov files to something else to use in PP? They play smoothly in Quicktime, but don't play smoothly when I go to edit them in PP?

Many thanks.
