Have one daughter graduating high school and the other college.

Both want me to take their pictures. Usually, I can't get them to ever let me take their pictures.

Any tips for getting some good shots.

1) What should they wear ?
2) I am considering going to a local botanical garden at dawn or dusk
3) What poses, full length ? Head shots ? Both
4) Fill flash ?

Have D800+70-200VR and a 85mm/1.8

Also a a7r with a Nikon 105/2.5

Thanks in advance.

Yes, I have looked at many sites. Just curious.

I would ask them what kind of photo they want.....based on what they have seen before and liked they may have differing ideas of what kinds of photos they want....then I would ask them had they given any thought to what they would wear in those settings......depending on the answers you will get an idea what you part of the deal is with the lighting etc......

Herb is spot on = Pintrest and Google. Get them to find some stuff that they like and then adapt the style/looks to them first. The mechanical stuff will follow.

When selecting clothing for your portrait try to choose items that will not draw attention away from the face. Solid, muted colors are usually the best choice. Avoid bright colors, bold prints, or clothing with patterns or writing.

For outdoor portaits, the best color choices are those found in nature: browns, tans, greens and blues.

It is important that the colors each person will wear looks good next to each other. Everybody in the portrait should be dressed similarly so that no one person stands out too much.
