Nothing there that I am currently interested in (like the 28 F1.8G or the new 35mm F1.8 G for FX).

The 28 is at $100 off if that is of interest to you.

My 80-400 just came in. Really glad I ordered it, better and more solid than I thought it would be. Wasn't cheap, but from the sample photos I've taken, the optical quality is great.

Lets see some pics from it. You shoot a D7100 as well correct? I am seriously contemplaiting getting the 80-400 as well and putting the 300mm f4 af-s up for sale.

I use a D800. Here's two of my first photos. I've got a lot to learn with this long lens stuff, but it's going to be a fun adventure.

Some instant rebates go as high as $400.

The savings begin February 9 and will end March 1st. Check out the links below:

Unfortunately they are lenses I already have or have no intention of ever owning . . . .

I've posted some pictures in the D7100 / 80-400mm threads. I shoot a D7100 and the 300mm has been gathering dust since I got the zoom. I can't bring myself to sell it, it's such a wonderful lens, but the 80-400mm is so much more versatile.

No doubt the 80-400 is more versatile, but I really think you are under estimating how sharp your 300 really is. I had to sell my 300 to fund the 80-400, I don't regret it at all, but man that 300 was crazy sharp.

Oh, I know how sharp it is. The 300mm is sharper than the 80-400mm (marginally, but noticeably) at 300mm - I've done the tests and shot with them both.

It's just become hard for me to grab the 300mm on the way out the door, because the zoom has so much more versatility regardless of what I see while I'm out. Nothing to do with how good the 300mm is.

I'm a little disappointed because most places were out of stock on the 40 mm macro lens I wanted. I bought from newegg instead.

Is there any way to get a rebate after the purchase?

Just how sharp across the frame is the 80-400G on a D800? SLRgear tests seem to indicate it has some problems at 400mm on the D800E - but that may just be the sample they have . . .

Used the $185 rebate to buy 105mm f/2.8G micro. I think it is a good deal given that the previous Nikon rebate on this lens was $135, and that the used ones seem to get sold around $700.

That caught my eye as the best deal of the lot; just a little more than I paid for mine back in 2006. Nice discount on the 80-400, puts the price around where it ought to be. $100 off on the 85/1.8 is decent, ditto for the 50/1.4. 16-35/4 at $957 is decent as well but I'll stick with my 17-35/2.8, it's paid for.

Considering that the Yen is down from the US$ further than it's been in 5 years it's really nice of Nikon to offer us these rebates... Hope they don't hurt themselves.

Bill

Another great deal is 50mm/1.4G if you are in the market for one. $100 in rebate and then some extra discount on B&H. Check it out. You can buy one new for lower than what the used ones get sold for on B&S forum!

Does anyone know if these rebates will be spilling over to us Canadians? I haven't seen anything yet, though our lens prices are usually pretty good to begin with.

Add another who picked up the 80-400, albeit locally, and then had to pay sales tax. But my test shots told me to do it and I could not resist.

Sharper at 400mm than the 300mm f/4 with a 1.4TC?

Not sure. They didn't have a 300 or TC. It would be hard pressed though from my samples from the 80-400.
