Alchemists promised they could turn water into gold...and actually it can really be done but its so expensive that its really not worth the effort...So is it worth it to turn a crappy RAW file into, well, something a bit less crappy...you be the judge. I'm not suggesting this is anything great but since it's unlikely I will ever see these guys in the wild again...it was certainly worth the salvage attempt.

Hmmm I would just eliminate #1 and make #2 #1 if ya know what I mean That is an odd looking RAW but a miraculous salvage job! Reminds me of a GBH in fog that I did like this. Heck the set is solid Eric, nice color and sharpness and 'keeping me on the edge' too

Eric, excellent example of what can be done after the fact.
I took some shots of Space Shuttle Endeavour's final piggyback flight
and sadly it was foggy/hazy but after some tinkering I had some shots I was proud of.

Great job

Thanks Karl...usually I wouldn't have posted the first but I thought it was a nice illustration of what can be done and that hitting the delete button too quickly especially if you have a unique sighting may be a bit premature. I actually imagine you or one of the other guys who are really wizards at PS could make this even better!

Thanks Tim...I was so upset when I first saw these that I almost cried...but my son assured me they were fixable...it's nice to have someone that knows a thing or two to talk you off the ledge.

You did okay with the first, I would have cloned the big animal out it, it's a fantastic shot of a rock !!!

I think you made your point Eric and made it quite well. These are marvelous. Trust me, if I had ANY shot of a tiger I would do anything to see if I could save it! I would go so far as to take the delete key off of the keyboard!

Fine work my friend!

Great work. I find the Auto button in LR will get you there with very little effort. I had to do a lot of this when I shot Orcas in the thick fog last summer and they turned out really well I thought. Fog and this type of flare can be saved....a good lesson for everyone!!

"So is it worth it to turn a crappy RAW file into, well, something a bit less crappy"

If you call this "a bit less crappy", then stand by, I've got a lot of images to send to you for post work. I would say outstanding recovery on these, Eric. Truly nice shots and excellent processing.

You are so good, I bet you could take a shot of the ledge and process the tiger into the shot.!
You cooked these RAW files to perfection; just add frame condiments!
And never say you won't go back for more. The tigers are waiting; at least for now! Don

Fantastic capture Eric, such a beautiful tiger.

You did a great job with that RAW file, now we can call you the "Fulcanelli" of post processing.

Thanks Roberta. No secrets...using Lightroom 5 to get blacks, whites and contrast. Imported into PS6 and do some noise reduction, check levels and then try to sharpen only the subject.

Too kind Tom...I do think it's amazing what we can do in post. I'm film/slide days those go into the circular file for sure.

Thanks Kenny...looks much harder than it really is.
It's more just flare than bad exposures.
