I'm looking for a no-thrills Pelican case for my 5D2 and 85 (other lenses I can throw in a pouch). Wondering what the absolute minimum sized case I can take...It would appear the 1200 would do it, but wondering about others like the 1150 if I were to detach the lens from the body and store the 5D2 on it's back, no upright. Anyway, any experience is very welcomed. Thanks!

I'd use the Pelican 1200 for a "no-frills" case. Bring on the "thrills"!

Here's my 1200 with a 5D and 85/1.8 in it, plus a bonus.

Both lenses fit "standing up", too. Might even have room for a CF card.

P.S. the camera does not fit "standing up".

Here's the link to some photos of my 1200. The body is a Nikon D7100, lenses include 18-105 VR, 70-300 VR & the 28-300 VR. The other stuff is my dual strobe set I use for diving, 2 Sea & Sea strobes, mounting plate & a pair of arms.

I use it for the strobes but thought I'd see what other possibilities existed.

I would recommend against using the foam insert and use the soft dividers. They are much more flexible for future changes in gear.

For lenses and cameras in soft and rigid cases, I generally use Op/Tech Snoot Boots and LensCoat BodyGuard, with slim top, bottom, and side foam, but no dividers. The 1200 in my example photo is set up for a SmallHD DP6 screen and accessories.

Awesome. Thanks so much for the help and pics! Wasn't expecting that. I'll have to check out the Snoot Boot things - those look very practical.

Should I be concerned about using the foam without a desiccant - ie, will it damage my gear, by chance?
