could you please explain what exactly that the 70-200 is much sharper in the corner vs the 50MP mean? are you comparing 70200's own center with its corner or you are comparing 70200's corner with 50MP's corner?

I got the lens yesterday and I noticed that when shoot wide open at 200mm, the corner is kind of obvious softer than the center shooting at the minimum distance(about 1.2/1.4 meters from testing chat)---is that normal or a concern?

Regards

Henry.

You've found the one weak spot of the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS MkII. At minimum focus distance wide open at 200mm the sharpness does deteriorate a bit. It's not horrendous, but it is noticeable when viewing at 100%. Pull back a bit and things improve drastically. It's a bit of a non issue though (for me) as it wasn't designed to be a macro lens. If you need to get in close then macro is the way to go. Other than that, the 70-200 never fails to impress me every time I use it, it's a stunning lens.

Oops, I overlooked your mention of the 200mm @ MFD. Sir_Loin is correct, it is the one weak spot of the lens. The 70-200 f/4 IS has the same IQ dropoff @ MFD.

The extreme edges on the 50MP are mushy until f/8, at least on a 36MP sensor.

Maybe its obvious on 36MP sensor, on my 5d3, I didnt see obvious softness on the corner of 50MP even wide open.

The 70-200 II is a killer lens. I had mine for about a few months now. Ready to put it up for sale because I am trying to purchase a Canon 800. Just make sure you keep the caps on after you have finished using it.
