Reprocessed this time for the milky way shot instead of star trails.

Just for comparison...

awesome!

i prefer the still one.
sometimes the motion of the stars can really look good but in this case it makes me a bit dizzy.
the milky way still shot is soo peaceful and well balanced.
also, the rock foreground in the still image is much better in terms of contrast and tones.

well done!

Thanks for your comments. Do you think it is worth to reprocess the tone of the arches of the star trail one?

I think the first shot is really something. The movement of the stars in the second seems to distract from the image.

The first photo is great. Could have been better if the foreground was brighter.

I like the first one, but for the fact that the foreground seems out of place. I would like to see a bit more tonal and color unity in the image overall, even if that means bringing a toning down some of the detail in the extreme shadows, and dialing back the color saturation overall. I've been to that spot and know how red it can be, but at this time of night, you can't see the foreground at all. I find the strong warm tones in the now visible foreground to clash somewhat unnaturally with the extreme blues in the sky, making the whole presentation feel a bit overprocessed. A little less color saturation overall, and allowing some shadow detail to get lost in the dark, would make the image stronger.

I dislike nightscapes with moving stars, and the second image for me is no exception. That said, I like the foreground processing in that image, probably because the tones are less warm.
