p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Using Nikkor/Canon zoom lenses with the Sony A7(R)

Hi,

I feel quite impressed with what the Sony cameras A7(R)
have to offer. They seem quite versatile as to be used
with almost any mount via an adapter. They also have
video capability with 24 and 60 fps in full HD. I have some
lenses in Leica and Hasselblad mounts, (35 mm., 50 mm.,
80 mm., 90 mm., and 120 mm. lenses). However, many
people describe it as a fiddly task to focus with lenses with
the above mentioned mounts. For that reason, I have
thought on using a zoom lens from Nikon, the 24-70 mm.
or 24-85 mm, or would you use a zoom lens from Sony?
On the B&H website, a videographer using the zoom from
Nikon praises the smaller camera from Sony,
as he uses the lens from Nikon. A videographer like him
can advantageously use again the zoom from Nikon, (or
Canon), with a dSLR.

Would you find disadvantageous getting a zoom from Nikon or
Canon, even if you don't already own one?

Thank you, kind regards,

igmolinav : ) !!!

guess I'm confused on this subject..I thought about the Sony for size/weight reduction, but bought a Nikon D610...doesn't adding the size, weight, another layer of complexity and cost of adapters to use Nikon/Canon lenses defeat the purpose of going with a Sony over a Nikon/Canon body? Is the thinking that the Sony is a better camera, IQ, or... sorry, just don't get the point

Hello Kell,

Thank you for your message : ) !!!

Yes, it can be confusing what I want to do
as I am trying to "juggle" all my options
together. On one side, I want to use my
other lenses to photograph that are in
Leica and Hasselblad mounts. On the other
side, I also want to do video, and that is
where these lenses may be a bit fiddly to
pull focus. I would only have within the next
one and half years one body and this may be
the Sony camera. However, I had thoughts
on adding a zoom that may be helpful for
video and down the line I would add a Nikon
body. Within two years, I expect lighter,
better, and cheaper dSLRs from Nikon. I was
wondering if some people here are already
using a Sony camera with a zoom from Nikon
or Canon with comfortable results. I am
wondering if it would be superfluous to get a
zoom now that I am getting a good price for
it.

Kind regards,

igmolinav : ) !!!

I wouldn't buy lenses from canon or nikon that you dont have to use specifically on an A7(r). If you are going with the sony then go with the sony lenses. If you already had a large collection of other lenses then, sure, use them on the A7(r).
