p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Shooting Menu settings inadvertently reset?

Hi,

(Some) shooting menu settings were apparently reset inadvertently and I'm hoping to find out why?

Specifically, in the middle of a multi-day photo trip, my settings of Image Quality = Raw plus Jpeg - Fine was reset to only Jpeg - Normal on a D7100.

I did NOT do this myself, neither was it done accidentally. It does not show up in Recent Settings menu.

Any idea how this might have happened?

The only possibility I can think of is that it happened when battery ran very low (but not completely dead) in a cold environment (camping in Yellowstone).

I did not discover this for several days and was pretty disappointed when I did.

thanks in advance

Could you or someone have possibly engaged the "two button reset" by accident?

https://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/17395

see p151 of the D7100 manual (according to Google).

I would've said this is unlikely, but after reviewing the default settings, it's very clear that this is what happened.

thanks for your response

I have a mental checklist I go thru every time I put a camera in my hand, before I even look thru
the VF. If something's amiss it's corrected before a shot's taken. Might want to adopt a similar habit.

I go the other way. Every day before I go out I first always do a card(s) reformat in camera. Then immediately do a two green button reset on camera. Then re-set it back to the settings I want for the day.

Anything, if you make it a routine, works. Otherwise stuff happens.

Think I read mine in a book, Scott Kelby's or Moose Peterson's.

^ I learned an important lesson regarding "checking one's body before a shoot" back in the film days.
Chance in a lifetime op on Bighorn Sheep, firing away like no tomorrow. Get home...NO FILM in camera
Since that day I have a routine and I don't dare vary. This is how we learn, eh?!
