p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Looking for a Landscape/Studio tripod.

I have a small light carbon fiber tripod for travel/backpack use now. I am looking for a tall very stable tripod to use for landscapes and in the studio.

I'm 6'5" and want one without a center column that rises, the tripod weight is not a concern for this purchase.

So my list of wants is:

1. Tall.
2. Stable.
3. Durable.
4. Least amount of leg sections as possible.
5. No center column.

My initial thought is something along the lines of the RRS 34L, but i'm sure there are other, maybe cheaper options.

Can someone throw out some options?

Take a look at the Feisol CT-3371, about 61 in tall without optional center column. Three leg sections.

That looks promising, thank you. I especially like the price.

Also consider the 3372. Slightly shorter but different build. Feisol says it's supposed to be better able to withstand rough conditions.

You should also consider picking up the leveling base for it.

If you have the space in the studio a studio stand is a much better approach. Keep an eye out for Cambo or Foba stands near you on craigslist or ebay, they tend to go cheap as they're expensive to ship.

For landscape work, my Lisand 7jr is about as rigid as it gets. With a bowl adapter any conventional tripod head can be used. Old aluminum video tripods such as these are generally very inexpensive.

A used Gitzo 3541XLS will be about half the price of the RRS 34L.
