Took a trip to Costa Rica last month and was fortunate to have a few minutes without tropic rain while standing on a hilltop facing the Arenal Volcano. I made a few HDR shots but am torn which is better (they have slightly different tones). Is anything missing? Needs more contrast?

Sorry to say but they are really artificial looking. Have you tried a non-HDR version? You should get much more pleasing colours and depth of tones.
You captured a nice scene and great clouds- worth re-processing I think.

Yup, these are not working for me at all. The clouds look epic and the folliage looks full though, so I think a realistic reprocess would be worth the effort. And by reprocess, I dont mean using the HDR program in a different way

I think taking the time to remove those power lines would be worth it as well.

I agree with Ute and Justin, the HDR takes away from the image, it doesn't make it better IMO.

the green parts need to be darker, more saturated and, for the first one, with more contrast. They look almost as bright as the sky and kinda faded out in an odd way.

i like them both alot and neither looks hdr to me
great sky and the greens look fine
