There is a pretty creek near Catoctin Mountain NP that I have always wanted to photograph, so I headed out in late afternoon with my brand new Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8. The sun had dropped behind the hills but I found a spot that had a nice reflection from the orange sky.
I am quickly developing a strong affection for wide angle shooting, but dang the 11-16 is wide. Quite a few times I was perched on a mossy rock in the middle of the creek, thinking I had the shot perfectly lined up, only to notice a tripod leg in the frame.
Shots were taken with autofocus off, lens set at the hyperfocal distance, shutter priority, timer for shutter release, and live view for framing. RAW files were processed in Lightroom – increased contrast, added a little clarity, vibrance, and sharpening, and as needed straightened horizons and knocked back highlights and lowlights.
I am quite new at wide-angle lenses and longer-exposure shots of moving water, so I would love to hear constructive feedback. What can I do better next time?
Thanks in advance. Edit: Added #s
